Bikaner is awesome and beautiful. Bikaner's
forts, palaces and temples - magnificent creations in
red and yellow sandstone, are living manifestations of
its rich historical and architectural legacy. A vast
expanse of rippling sand and scorching sun. Bikaner is
not only popular for its colorful bazaars and havelis,
but is also famous for the best riding camels in the
world. The old city is bolstered, by 7 km long imposing
walls, with 5 entrance gates, built in the 18th century. |

Junagarh Fort : |
Junagarh Fort is one of the most imposing forts of northern
India which has remained unconquered till date. Junagarh
fort was built in 15th century by one of the most able and
trusted generals of Akbar, Raja Rai Singh. Junagarh Fort has
96 mt long wall, with 37 bastions and 2 entrances, main
entrance of the fort is Suraj pol or sun gate. Within the
fort there are thirty seven palaces and pavilions amongst
which the most spectacular ones are the Chandra Mahal or
Moon palace, the Phool Mahal or Flower palace, both ornated
with carved panels and mirrors and the Karan Maha. The
palaces, exquisitely built in red sandstone and marble are
ornate with mirror work, carvings and paintings. A museum
with valuable miniature paintings and rare antiques is also
located in the Junagarh Fort.

Lallgarh Palace : |
Lal Garh Palace
is architectural masterpiece in red sandstone, the
palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh in the
memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh. Designed by
Sir Swinton Jacob almost -90 years ago, this is an
extraordinary monument. The palace has beautiful
latticework and filigree work. Sprawling lawns with
blooming bougainvillea and dancing peacocks make it
a not-to-be missed
visual treat. Part of the palace has been converted
into a luxury hotel and a museum known as Shri Sadul
Museum. The museum covers the entire first floor of
the palace and houses well preserved old photographs
and trophies of wildlife. The palace has a billiards
room, a library, a cards room and a smoking room.
Belgian chandeliers, cut - glass ornaments, oil
paintings and lamps add to its charm.

Bikaner Havelis : |
Bikaner havelis are marvels in
home architecture which do not exist anywhere else
in the world. They are marvelous mansions made of
red stone and stand magnificently. The most famous
cluster of havelis is the Rampuria Group of
Havelis. The wood carvings in Rampuria Havelis are
more exquisite and they have diverse exterior and
each haveli has a pattern of its own. Rikhji bagri
ki haveli have arched entrances and captivating
jharokhas look more beautiful because of the flowers
embossed on them which are more beautiful than the
real flowers. Daga chowk havelis are another
cluster of havelis which attracts the tourists.
These havelies are adorned with carvings of flowers.
Another remarkable haveli near this haveli is the
haveli of Poonam Chand Kothari. Its exterior
carvings are as beautiful as those of Daga havelis.
In every haveli the dankhana is the most adored room
and most prestigious too. A dankhana generally has
six pillars which has glass mirror with gold frame.

Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum : |
Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum is the best amongst the many
royal museums in Rajasthan. Its reputation has been enhanced
by its rare collection of terra-cotta ware, weapons,
miniature paintings
from the Bikaner School and coins. The exhibits are splendid
masterpieces of Harappan civilization, Gupta and Kushan era
and sculptures of the late classical time. The Bikaneri
miniatures which are
displayed in a separate section for local arts, makes visit
to the museum a must.

Prachina Museum : |
|
Prachina is museum opened in
2000 by daughter of Maharaja Narendra Singh Ji. It
is an endeavor to recreate the past and highlight
the pace of modernization activated with times and a
representation of regional museum as there was a
lacuna of courtly tradition and craft Museum in
Bikaner. Prachina is an effort to highlight the
aristocratic patronage which thrived and survived in
Bikaner. This museum hopes to build and develop a
cultural center to revive the dying craft of Bikaner.

Bhaneshwar & Sandheswar Temple : |

Bhaneshwar & Sandheswar temples
are the oldest surviving monuments of aesthetic
heritage. These were built by two brothers and the
temples carry their names. Bhandeshwar Jain Temples
is a beautiful 16th century Jain temples, dedicated
to the 23rd Tirthankar Parshvanathji. The mirror
work and the golden leaf paintings in the temple are
noteworthy. The temples have colorful wall
paintings and some intricate carvings, and there is
a fine view of the city wall and surrounding
countryside from the park behind the temples. |
